The Albanian Electricity Corporation (KESH) has spent 15.5 million euros to buy electricity during the month of November, bringing the total bill for the year to 60 million euros.
The lack of rainfall in November forced KESH to import 100 thousand megawatts of energy, at an average price of 150 euros/MWh. This price is lower compared to the energy crisis of 2022, when one megawatt was sold for 500 euros.
For the last time, Albania had purchased energy on the foreign market in August, covering the needs through production in the Drin Cascade. The current situation may improve during December, thanks to the recent rains that have increased the water level in the Fierza hydropower plant to 265 meters, while the maximum quota is 296 meters.
KESH has announced that it constantly monitors the situation and that internal consumption is provided by production in two other cascade hydropower plants and by imports when necessary.
