The Christmas and New Year 2025 celebrations in Gjirokastra have created a special atmosphere.
Museum complexes, characteristic buildings and cobbled streets are decorated with colorful decorations and lights.
The holiday decor and architectural landscape make the stone town attractive to tourists even in the winter season.
“Gjirokastra has turned into a tourist attraction, it has become a tourist trend thanks to many actors and factors, not only the infrastructural part, the increase of capacities, but also the great promotion that has been done and the satisfaction felt by the tourists who come for the impressions they leave” , Maksim Hoxha, chairman of the Gjirokastra Chamber of Commerce.
At the beginning of December, there is a growing interest of tourists, mainly foreigners, to visit Gjirokastra. Hotel businesses and accommodation structures have increased bookings for the holidays.
“This trend, I hope that for this year for the month of December, for the month of holidays, there are reservations for the Christmas holidays and the New Year’s holiday, from mainly foreign tour operators, in the past years it has been few, while this year we are looking at more satisfactory”, he says.
Throughout this year, Gjirokastra has been visited by about 600,000 tourists, most of whom are foreign tourists.
