The restoration works in Lezha Castle continue. The news was given by the Minister of Economy, Culture and Innovation, Blendi Gonxhja.

It is known that the “EU4Culture” team is working to stabilize the northern part of the castle wall, which has suffered serious damage.

After decades of deterioration and other damage from the 2019 earthquake, this intervention is very important to prevent a collapse and preserve the structure until full restoration is done.

The first phase of restoration has begun with excavations and archaeological tests in the intervention area.

Lezha Castle is one of the most important objects of Albanian Cultural Heritage and History.

The castle of the ancient city of Lezha is surrounded by walls from different periods dating from the antiquity c. IV BC with the name of the ancient city of Lisi.

It has been burned and repaired several times, while its last documented reconstructions date from 1521.
