The Democratic Party has requested the establishment of an investigative commission to examine the legality of the procedures for approving the project of the Port of Durrës, “Durres Marina & Yachts”, the sale of the port management concession to the company Schapha d.o.o., and the construction of the new port in Porto Romano.
According to the opposition MPs, this project has been accompanied by a lot of concerns and doubts about lack of transparency and dubious benefits for private investors, questioning the real benefits of the Albanian state.
In a formal request addressed to the Assembly, the deputies of the Democratic Party argued that this is a matter of exceptional public interest, as it involves making important decisions that directly affect the state’s assets and citizens’ interests. They want to investigate the procedures for approving the law, exemption from taxes for companies, as well as the granting of land and other state assets for the realization of the project.
In their request, the opposition has emphasized that these procedures have been developed with suspicious speed, passing the draft law on the “Durres Navy & Yachts” in only 16 days from the moment of its deposit in the Assembly, without any significant changes from the draft initial.
The DP also requests the investigation of all agreements and contracts related to this project, including possible exemptions from taxes and contributions, which may have benefited private investors.
