The joint session of the Assembly of Kosovo and the Assembly of Albania was held in Pristina this Friday.

In her speech, the President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, emphasized that this meeting not only reflects the common cultural and historical heritage, but also reflects the unwavering commitment to create a decent and sustainable future for the citizens of both countries.

“This joint session should serve as a call to coordinated action and a reminder that our common goal requires great ambition and unrelenting effort. We are in a period of many challenges, which requires a common commitment and close cooperation to achieve our goals,” Osmani declared.

President Osmani also emphasized the importance of strengthening the state of Kosovo, linking this to the strengthening of Albania. She emphasized that a strong Kosovo would also contribute to the strengthening of Albania and vice versa.

“A strong Albania is a stronger Kosovo, and a successful Kosovo helps in the further development of Albania. This is a process that requires joint commitment and is the responsibility of both states,” Osmani said.

President Osmani underlined that the ties between the two countries should be deepened and that cooperation is not an option, but a necessity to achieve common goals.

“Together, as two independent and sovereign states, united by history, language and culture, we must move forward side by side, as we have always done,” she said, stressing that this cooperation is essential for stability and development of both countries.

Also, President Osmani requested a unification of the foreign policy between Kosovo and Albania, stressing that the close cooperation between the two countries is the key to advancing the Euro-Atlantic integration of both countries.

“Cooperation between us is a necessary necessity. It is not a choice, but a request to ensure a better future and to help realize common goals,” said Osmani.

President Osmani also spoke about the importance of Kosovo’s membership in NATO, describing this as an important step to curb any hegemonic efforts of Serbia towards Kosovo.

“Kosovo’s membership in NATO is a necessary step that will put an end to any kind of hegemonic appetite towards Kosovo and will ensure peace and stability in the region,” she said.

Furthermore, President Osmani appealed for attention to the dangerous developments in the region, mentioning the destabilization tendencies in North Macedonia and threats to the use of the Albanian language.

“We cannot remain silent nor turn a blind eye to these trends that harm regional peace and stability,” Osmani concluded.
