In the last week, more than 12,000 people have presented themselves to family doctors in polyclinics or hospital emergencies throughout the country, as a result of being affected by the flu or seasonal viruses.
The largest number of visits was recorded in the capital. Doctors appeal to be careful, as the flu is a viral infection that causes complications.
During just one day, about 100 patients who need specialized treatment appear at the dispensary service in the capital.
“These cause respiratory tract infections, bronchitis, sinusitis up to pneumonia, 10-15% can be serious complications, with pneumonia or bronchopneumonia, while the share of bronchitis is 50-60%”, says Entela Nako, director of the Dispensary.
It is the family doctors who refer their patients to the specialist doctor, after they see that within 1 week the disease has progressed and is not improving.
“Usually, they are over 65 years old, patients who have concomitant diseases, diabetes, heart disease, or those who receive immunotherapy”, says the doctor.
Experts say that most of the cases that cause serious complications have not applied the flu vaccine. They say that the risk categories should be vaccinated as the flu can be fatal for them.
