The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, says that he sees no possibility for coalitions after the February 9 elections. According to Kurti, who leads the Vetëvendosje Movement, the opposition parties “have not reformed”.
Kurti expects his party to exceed the result of 2021, and considers that the expectations for half a million votes “are real”.
“We see no possibility of having post-election coalitions, that’s why we made pre-election coalitions, first with Guxo party and also with Alternativa party, with whom we have co-governed in these four years and we have the best experiences and impressions from each other. The parties that have long been in government in Kosovo for two decades, sometimes two of them, sometimes all three together, PDK, LDK and AAK, in these four years I have not seen that they have reformed and when we consider that, especially in recent months, the attacks that have been made against our political subject, against the exponents of our political subject, against our good and democratic governance, we do not see any possibility of having any coalition in the next mandate, moreover, it will not be not even necessary”, says Kurti.
In the February 9 elections, the Vetëvendosje Movement competes with a joint list with “Guxo” and “Alternativa”.
“We expect to exceed the result of 2021 because four years ago we had 438 thousand votes and I believe it is realistic to expect to have an increase, that is why we have set this goal of half a million votes in the elections of February 9, 2025. We are very happy that we had institutional stability, we are the first government to carry the mandate to the end and I hope that this will be a good start of institutional stability in the Republic of Kosovo, unlike the previous governments in independent Kosovo that they did not complete their mandate. We need governments that have a four-year full mandate for their commitments”, says Kurti.
Kurti also mentions the Sovereign Fund and the Development Bank for the next term – promises that were not fulfilled during this term.
“We must first establish the Sovereign Fund of the Republic of Kosovo, and we believe that we will soon receive the green light from the Constitutional Court and, in parallel, the Development Bank. This is a very important pillar of the economic reform in Kosovo for a developing country. On the other hand, we absolutely need the Office for the Confiscation of Unjustifiable Assets, once we were overthrown in the Constitutional Court by 5 to 4, we brought the law to the Assembly, it passed two readings and it is again in the Constitutional Court, this office will have to be founded this year. And at the same time, we have Veting for the judiciary, so that competence, integrity and efficiency are characteristic of our justice system. These are the capital things that we will definitely do”, he says.
The law on the Sovereign Fund has been sent by the opposition to the Constitutional Court for interpretation.
“There is no responsibility on our part, firstly the Constitutional Court considered the opposition complaint acceptable and secondly it has been delayed for too long in dealing with these, I wish that the Constitutional Court would be more selective in the cases it deals with and more expeditious when it wants to treat them”, says Kurti.
