The Government of Kosovo has approved on Friday the increase of pensions for all categories resulting from the last war in Kosovo, by 20 percent.

Prime Minister Albin Kurti’s cabinet approved updating an annex to the Law on War Categories during a meeting on Friday to enable the increase promised last October.

“As we announced in October, today, even officially, the increase of 20 percent over the current amount will be approved for the families of martyrs, invalids, veterans, members of the Kosovo Liberation Army, victims of sexual violence and civilian victims,” Kurti said.

This increase will benefit the families of martyrs, invalids, veterans, members of the former Kosovo Liberation Army, victims of war sexual violence and civilian victims.

The Minister of Finance of Kosovo, Hekuran Murati, said that the increase for all categories of veterans, invalids and victims of sexual violence will be 20 percent above the current pension amount.

“For some categories, there is an increase even beyond the 20 percent level. The categories that benefit from an increase of over 20 percent are the families of KLA martyrs who have two or more martyrs, the families of the missing KLA who have more than two missing and the families of civilian victims”, he said.

This is the first increase in the last 10 years for these categories, since these schemes were made in 2014, he said.

The increase will be effective from this month, Minister Murati said in a press conference.
