The President of the Republic, Bajram Begaj, today addressed a message to the members of the Albanian Parliament on the occasion of the opening of the new parliamentary session.

He emphasized the importance of a new period of cooperation and dialogue, serving the Albanian people and the European integration process. President Begaj praised the achievement of opening technical negotiations with the European Union, a historic step in Albania’s integration path.

Begaj called for the intensification of reforms and commitment to economic development, strengthening education, justice, and the fight against corruption. He reminded the deputies that the Parliament plays an irreplaceable role in achieving these objectives.

In his message, the President also pointed out that the May 11 elections are the most important event for any democracy. He appealed for the electoral process to be carried out according to OSCE-ODIHR standards, ensuring fair competition and respect for the citizens’ vote.

“The quality of the elections must overcome any divisions and prevail over party interests,” he emphasized.

Begaj expressed his confidence that all political factors have the opportunity and duty to ensure a fair and peaceful electoral process, in the service of sustainable development and peace in the region.

“The new parliamentary session coincides with the May 11 elections. It is understandable that the political agenda of the elections should be the central focus. Elections are the most important event in a democracy,” said Begaj.
