Prime Minister Edi Rama attended the inauguration of buildings 16 and 17 of the dormitories in “Qyteti Studenti.” Also present were the Minister of Education, Ogerta Manastirliu, and the Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj.
In his speech, Prime Minister Rama stated that these buildings could be classified as “Category A” in any European country and emphasized the transformation that Tirana has undergone, contributing to Albania’s image.
“We must offer students the best possible conditions, comparable to those of students in the EU. This dormitory would fall into Category A in any EU country. Even in Paris and London, there are dormitories where four people share a room. Here, every room has its own private shower. This is an ambition that, thanks to our growing economy, allows us to invest in long-term projects rather than temporary solutions,” said Rama.
Additionally, he discussed further projects planned for the area beyond the dormitory buildings.
“This area will undergo further transformations, including new administrative buildings, a large reading and study center with the aim of developing a library. We will continue with a shared dining hall, a facility for socio-cultural activities, and a building that will house Albania’s first indoor Olympic swimming pool,” the Prime Minister added.
Rama also praised the work of the Tirana Municipality in the development of the capital city.
“These projects already have dedicated funding waiting to be allocated. ‘Qyteti Studenti’ embodies the transformation of our country, reflecting both the pains and distortions of the transition period we have left behind.
‘Qyteti Studenti’ has the potential to become a city-park, and we must be confident that the Municipality is the driving force in all directions. Tirana is the metropolis of Albania, and with its economic success, it has the capacity to take far greater steps than other cities,”** he emphasized.
Among the new projects, Rama highlighted an initiative to provide school lunches in elementary schools, a program aimed at supporting families and fostering a stronger social community among children.
“We will implement a new joint project between the government and the municipality to introduce school lunches in elementary schools. This initiative will enhance the sense of community and shared social life among children, allowing them to participate in more activities. Parents will no longer have to worry about their children after dropping them off at school in the morning,” Rama stated.
