In the fight against corruption during 2024, Albania has seen a five-point increase compared to 2023, according to Transparency International’s report.
In the global rankings of the Corruption Perceptions Index, Albania has climbed 18 places, ranking 80th out of 180 countries.
This marks the most significant improvement for Albania, which has been rated 42 out of a possible 100 points.
What contributed to Albania’s score increase over the past year is the Special Prosecution Office and specialized anti-corruption courts, which have convicted former ministers, MPs, and mayors. This process has helped judicial institutions gain citizens’ trust, the report states.
In 2023, Albania was rated 37 points and ranked 98th out of 180 countries.
The report also highlights that Kosovo has made progress in the fight against corruption, with a three-point increase, bringing its score to 44 points.
Regarding the global situation, Transparency International notes that corruption continues to undermine Eastern Europe and Central Asia, with a regional average that remains among the lowest in the Corruption Perceptions Index, at 35 out of 100.
