Germany: Two Injured After Court Session on the Murder of Albanian Boxer

Several people were shot outside the regional court in Bielefeld, Germany, where a trial was taking place for the murder of Albanian boxer from Mitrovica, Besar Nimani.

According to local newspapers, at least two people were injured, one of them in critical condition.

Two suspects are believed to be responsible for the shooting. One has been arrested by the police, while the other has barricaded himself inside a building.

According to Bild, among the injured are the father and brother of one of the defendants in the trial for Besar Nimani’s murder.

  • The other suffered a severe gunshot wound to the chest and was resuscitated at the scene before being transported to the hospital.

How the Shooting Unfolded

According to an initial reconstruction of events, a man fired shots from a sidewalk, then got into a car and fired several times from inside the vehicle.

Large numbers of police officers, including special intervention units, are present at the scene and have launched a large-scale operation, cordoning off the area.

The gunfire also forced students and teachers from a nearby high school to barricade themselves inside classrooms for safety reasons.

Police Response

Heavily armed police officers have surrounded the crime scene, urging people to avoid the area.

Authorities confirmed that a large-scale operation is underway, with one person arrested and a second suspect still at large, possibly barricaded in a building near the district court.

Background: The Murder of Besar Nimani

Boxer Besar Nimani was murdered in Bielefeld, Germany, on March 9, 2024.

According to German media reports and witness statements, Nimani was shot as soon as he stepped out of a restaurant.

  • The attackers fired from a motorcycle, then abandoned it to escape in a car.
  • 16 bullets were fired at Nimani, killing him on the spot.

38-year-old Hüseyin Akkurt is accused of Nimani’s murder. He was arrested in June 2024 in Brussels.

Authorities suspect Akkurt and Aymand Dawoud Kirit, 33, who remains at large, were responsible for the execution-style killing.
