Just minutes before the legal deadline, the Democratic Party (DP) officially submitted its request to the Central Election Commission (CEC) to register a coalition with 25 other parties, under the name “DP – Alliance for a Grand Albania.”
The Freedom Party, Republican Party, PDIU, Agrarian Party, and PBDNJ are the main allies of DP, with whom they will share 47 safe spots in electoral lists across 12 districts.
The Freedom Party has secured the largest share, receiving 4 seats in the districts of Tirana, Fier, and Elbasan. Alongside Ilir Meta, other likely candidates from the Freedom Party in DP’s list include Tedi Blushi, Erisa Xhixho, and Edmond Haxhinasto.
Four other parties will each receive one seat, distributed across Durrës, Tirana, and Vlora.
- In Tirana, Mediu (Republican Party) and Idrizi (PDIU) are expected to be on the list.
- In Vlora, Dule (PBDNJ) is likely to be included.
- In Durrës, a candidate from the Agrarian Party is expected to run.
Beyond these key allies, several smaller parties have also joined the coalition. Many of these have not held parliamentary seats in years, except in 2019, when they entered Parliament following the mass resignation of DP and LSI MPs.
With 8 seats reserved for allies and 18 additional spots designated for political leaders and key DP figures, the number of spots available for primary-winning DP candidates has been significantly reduced. These primaries took place on March 1.
