The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, welcomed today the European Union’s Special Representative for the Kosovo-Serbia Dialogue, Peter Sorensen.

In this first official meeting, he congratulated Sorensen on his new role and briefed him on the latest developments in the country and the steps toward forming institutions in the ninth legislature.

According to a statement from the Government of Kosovo, the Prime Minister requested that Sorensen urge the EU to immediately lift what he described as unjust restrictive measures against Kosovo. He highlighted the contradiction within the EU, its fundamental values, and the reforms undertaken by the Government of Kosovo with strong public support. He pointed out that at a time when Kosovo is achieving its highest democratic progress—also confirmed by international indices—it remains subject to EU-imposed restrictive measures.

“They discussed the EU-mediated dialogue process and the path forward. The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of the full and unconditional implementation of the Basic Agreement and the Ohrid Annex. Recalling the paramilitary attack in Banjska in September 2023 and the terrorist attack in Ibër-Lepenc in November last year, he also stressed the ongoing threat posed by chief terrorist Milan Radoičić and his group to the country’s security and the normalization of relations within the dialogue process. As long as Radoičić remains free in Serbia—despite admitting guilt before Serbian authorities and facing a 160-page indictment from the Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Kosovo—he remains a serious obstacle. Therefore, he reiterated the call for Radoičić and his group to be handed over to Kosovo for trial,” the statement concluded.
