“The court is not in a position to provide information on any specific request or decision regarding Mr. Thaçi,” the Special Court stated in a declaration on Tuesday.
According to the court, “requests made by a detainee and the decisions on those requests are initially always confidential for reasons including privacy and operational security,” as reported by KosovaPress.
The court further explained that after the completion of a humanitarian visit, judges reclassify the relevant documents to ensure that the public can be informed in detail.
“It is also important to emphasize that while such visits, when ordered by the judges, are organized as quickly as possible, the process may take time, requiring close coordination with multiple actors and complex logistical arrangements, including flights and security,” the court added.
Hashim Thaçi’s father, Haxhi Thaçi, passed away late on Sunday. He had been hospitalized at the University Clinical Center due to severe health conditions.
On Thursday, Hashim Thaçi was allowed to visit his father under strict security measures, following permission granted by the Special Court, which is trying him for alleged war crimes.
After a three-hour visit, Thaçi was escorted back to The Hague, the Dutch city where the Special Court is headquartered.
Hashim Thaçi has been in detention since November 2020, facing an ongoing legal process at the Kosovo Specialist Chambers—commonly known as the Special Court—on charges of alleged war crimes.
