Kurti Promises Over €1 Billion Budget for Kosovo’s Army

Kosovo’s Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, has pledged that in a potential new governing term, over €1 billion will be allocated to the Kosovo Security Force (KSF).

Speaking during a cabinet meeting, Kurti praised the achievements of his government during its full constitutional term, emphasizing what he called “extraordinary results.”

“The army budget has been tripled, overseas training has quadrupled, and investments in weaponry have significantly increased—including the purchase of Bayraktar combat drones and the contract for establishing a domestic ammunition factory,” Kurti said.

“In the next mandate, we will allocate over €1 billion for the army. We will have our own ammunition factory and military drones ‘Made in Kosova,’ produced right here,” he added.

In 2024, the budget for the Ministry of Defense was €153 million, while for 2025 it has increased to €207.8 million.

These announcements come as the KSF continues its transformation into a full-fledged army, and amid broader efforts to strengthen Kosovo’s defense capabilities.

Last November, Kosovo launched the process of establishing an ammunition production plant and signed a deal with a Turkish manufacturer. Turkey is also the supplier of combat drones purchased by Kosovo. Additionally, the government announced plans to open a laboratory for designing unmanned aerial vehicles (drones).

Alongside domestic production, Kosovo is also purchasing weapons abroad. It is in the process of acquiring over 200 Javelin anti-tank systems from the United States, a deal expected to cost $75 million. Kurti also revealed that Kosovo aims to purchase U.S.-made Black Hawk helicopters for the
