Albanians held in Corfu prison have protested for their rights, claiming they are being subjected to scandalous conditions.
They allege they are discriminated against for being Albanian and are denied even the most basic human rights, such as proper food, water, and access to legal rights, including permission for leave or conditional release.
According to the inmates, they are treated differently than Greek prisoners, who they say enjoy certain privileges.
As an act of protest, one Albanian inmate set his cell on fire. Following this, he was reportedly beaten by prison guards and received death threats.
Footage from inside the prison shows the harsh conditions faced by the Albanian inmates. They are calling on the Albanian Ministry of Justice and the Albanian Embassy in Greece to intervene and protect their rights.
