Democratic Party MP Albana Vokshi delivered a speech this Monday at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, focusing on the May 11 electoral process.
According to Vokshi, the elections on May 11 violated every democratic standard, and during an emotional moment in her speech, she broke into tears while revealing that both she and her daughter had been threatened at polling stations in Vorë.
“The truth is even more alarming. Can elections be considered democratic when the Copenhagen criteria have been flagrantly violated? I have witnessed several electoral processes, but I have never seen a climate of terror like this. In Vorë, I was threatened in broad daylight by criminals convicted of murder and drug trafficking. My colleagues here are well aware of this. Even my daughter was threatened outside a polling station. Despite reporting this to the police and SPAK, no action has been taken so far. These criminals remain free, and I live in fear and anxiety until my daughter returns home. I ask you, are these free elections?” Vokshi stated.
