The constitutive session of the Kosovo Assembly has once again failed this Friday. After Gërvalla and Haxhiu, Vetëvendosje proposed Hekuran Murati as candidate for Speaker of Parliament, but his nomination did not receive the necessary quorum to end the deadlock that has persisted for months in Pristina’s legislative body.

Murati received only 57 votes in favor, while 51 voted against and 6 abstained.

Following this, the session was adjourned. The presiding officer announced that it would resume on August 24 at 11:00 a.m.

The leader of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), Memli Krasniqi, said that his party did not vote for Hekuran Murati because, according to him, PDK has made it clear it will not support ministers from the previous government.

Krasniqi added that Vetëvendosje proposed Murati’s name for Speaker of Parliament even though it knew he would not secure the required votes for the position. He further claimed that “LVV does not want to constitute the Assembly” and is deliberately dragging out the formation of new institutions.
