A new seasonal virus is currently circulating in the country, significantly increasing the number of patients visiting health centers, particularly children and the elderly.

According to family doctors, the most common symptoms are diarrhea, vomiting, fever, loss of balance, and occasionally a temperature reaching up to 37.5°C.

The virus spreads quickly from one family member to another and is more frequent after returning from summer holidays.

“We are experiencing an increased influx of patients, mainly pediatric ages and those over 65. They present with mild gastrointestinal symptoms and, in some cases, fever. If symptoms last more than 2–3 days, it is recommended to visit the family doctor,” said Barie Karasani, a family doctor at Health Center No. 4 in Tirana.

Although this viral infection is short-lived, proper care in treatment is essential. Prevention and correct treatment are very important. Citizens should not resort to self-medication but should consult their doctor at the first signs of illness.

Doctors also warn that other viruses are currently circulating as well, so self-medication—especially with antibiotics—is not a solution and may worsen the condition.
