The Legal Affairs Committee in the Municipality of Tirana has set the agenda for the 4:00 p.m. meeting, where the dismissal of Erion Veliaj will be discussed at the request of Socialist Party councilors.

On Friday, Veliaj sent a letter to the City Council requesting to attend the meeting. The Council’s Secretary, Behar Zeneli, responded that if the mayor could not be physically present, he could submit his claims in writing.

Veliaj replied by reminding him that the Secretary cannot take on the role of a collegial body, as his competencies are only administrative. According to Veliaj, up to this point he has not received any official notification regarding the holding of the meeting, the grounds for dismissal, or the materials attributing responsibility to him.

SPAK clarified to Euronews Albania that, so far, no request has been received from the suspended mayor Erion Veliaj or from the prison administration for a special permit that would allow him to participate in the Tirana City Council meeting on September 23.
