A Serbian citizen has been arrested and placed in police custody after assaulting police officers at the Jarinje border crossing, Kosovo Police announced.

The incident occurred on October 2 at 04:55, and one police officer required medical treatment, according to the 24-hour police report.

No further details were provided by the authorities.

The Jarinje border crossing is located in Leposaviq—one of the four Serb-majority municipalities in northern Kosovo—that connects Kosovo with Serbia.

In addition to Jarinje, other border crossings linking Kosovo and Serbia include Bërnjak, Merdare, Mutivodë, Dheu i Bardhë, and Muçibaba.

Kosovo and Serbia share a border of around 350 kilometers, and the process of official border demarcation has yet to be completed.

In recent years, several incidents have occurred along the border line. Since the end of the war in 1999, NATO’s peacekeeping mission in Kosovo, KFOR, has overseen border security. This responsibility derives from the Military-Technical Agreement of Kumanovo, which ended the Kosovo war. Serbia signed the agreement with NATO in 1999 and subsequently withdrew all police and military forces from Kosovo.

However, since 1999, the Kosovo Police have also been conducting patrols along the border.
