The Durrës–Rrogozhinë railway line is expected to be completed in 2028. A grant of €60.5 million provided by the European Union will enable the construction of a modern line, which will later serve as an extension of Corridor VIII, connecting Albania with Italy, Bulgaria and North Macedonia.

The total investment amounts to €120 million, and in addition to the EU grant, the project is also co-financed through loans from the EBRD (European Bank for Reconstruction and Development) and the European Investment Bank.

The 34-kilometer Durrës–Rrogozhinë railway will provide a direct connection between Rrogozhinë, Lekaj, Kavajë, Golem, Tirana and Durrës, as well as integration with the Tirana–Durrës railway line and the airport. It will also link with the Vorë–Hani i Hotit project, currently under implementation, and the segment connecting Rrogozhinë to Pogradec — including the section that ties Albania to North Macedonia and subsequently to Bulgaria.

The railway line will be electrified and aligned with European Union standards, enabling train travel at speeds of up to 120 km/h.
