Kosovo’s President Vjosa Osmani has traveled to Tirana today. Sources from KosovaPress report that Osmani is visiting Albania for a short, private visit.

A protest in support of former Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) leaders currently on trial in The Hague will be held in Tirana today. Meanwhile, some media outlets have linked Osmani’s visit to the protest.

Two days ago, Osmani declared that she supports the protest in Tirana, held in defense of the former KLA commanders.

“I support this protest and have supported every protest that calls for justice.
The citizens of Kosovo and Albanians everywhere have never asked for anything other than justice — justice that upholds the highest principles of human rights protection.
Kosovo, and particularly the leaders who are now facing trial in The Hague, presented themselves before justice precisely because they believed in it. It has now been five years, without any doubt in international justice.
But as institutions of Kosovo, we continually call for the highest principles of human rights and freedoms to be respected, and I fully support our citizens whenever they protest to demand adherence to these standards,” Osmani said.

Another protest was held in The Hague on September 14, a day before the testimony of the first defense witness — former U.S. Assistant Secretary of State James Rubin.
That protest took place near the Special Court building and gathered around 10,000 Albanians from all over the world.

Likewise, on August 7, the Organization of KLA War Veterans held another protest in Pristina, gathering former fighters and citizens to denounce what they consider unfair treatment by the Special Court in The Hague.

Today’s protest in Tirana is organized by the Organization of KLA War Veterans (OVL-UÇK).
During a press conference yesterday, organizers announced that more than 60 buses will depart from Kosovo for the protest.
It has also been confirmed that Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama will participate in the rally.
