The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, stated that if there is no agreement on forming a new government during Sunday’s parliamentary session, she will invite political parties to explore whether any of them can secure the 61 votes needed for a majority.

“If there is no agreement, then as President, I will invite all political parties to see whether there is a possibility for someone to form a majority,” Osmani said in an interview with Deutsche Welle in Albanian.

The session is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, with only one item on the agenda — the election of Kosovo’s new government.

Osmani has nominated Vetëvendosje leader Albin Kurti to form the government, following his party’s victory in the February 9 elections.

However, it remains unclear whether Kurti has the 61 votes required to form the executive.

“I think it’s too early to talk about extraordinary elections, but that remains an alternative if a majority cannot be formed. In fact, it is the only option according to the Constitution,” President Osmani emphasized.
