The Council of Ministers decided this Friday to declare Sunday, November 2, 2025, a National Day of Mourning in honor of former Prime Minister Fatos Nano, who passed away after several days in the hospital.
The Council of Ministers stated that on Sunday, all state and public institutions will lower the national flag to half-mast. It was further announced that at 12:00 p.m., all activities across the country will pause for a one-minute moment of silence. The public homage and the State Funeral Ceremony will be held at the Palace of Congresses in Tirana.

Former Prime Minister Fatos Nano passed away this Friday at the age of 73. He had been hospitalized for more than three weeks in a private hospital in the capital in serious condition.
Nano had been admitted on October 8 due to chronic respiratory problems. The former prime minister suffered a cardiac arrest followed by clinical brain death. His health condition had been critical for days, showing no signs of improvement. On September 16 of this year, the historic leader of the Socialist Party, Nano, celebrated his 73rd birthday.
