Albanian youth are increasingly distancing themselves from doctors and relying on contraceptive methods based mainly on what they read online or the influence of their peers.
This is a warning that demands attention, as obtaining information from non-specialist sources increases the risk of misinformation.
According to a study conducted by the Albanian Alliance Center for Population and Development, many young Albanians take contraceptive pills and undergo abortions without consulting a doctor.
Experts point out that the internet and social circles have become the primary sources of information, often leading to unsafe practices concerning reproductive health.
Elona Gjebrea, from the Albanian Alliance Center for Population and Development, emphasized the importance of giving priority to expert voices when discussing reproductive health issues and new legislation.
This, she said, would help avoid misinformation and disinformation.
Experts also recommend that before new laws are approved, they should be explained in simple language for the general public, thereby minimizing misinterpretation and potential misuse by conservative groups.
