Unpaid social insurance liabilities have surpassed €200 million, marking an increase of over 9% compared to 2023.
An audit by the State Supreme Audit Institution (KLSH) at the Social Insurance Institute revealed that €190 million are outstanding liabilities carried by private businesses, while the rest come from budgetary enterprises. Of these, public entities hold about 6% of the total insurance liabilities, valued at over €10 million.
KLSH notes that the number of debtors in the public sector fell from 823 in 2023 to 724 in 2024, but the total value of unpaid liabilities increased by €5 million. The growth is particularly significant among non-budgetary institutions, where liabilities have nearly doubled.
On the other hand, the situation in the private sector has worsened even further. The number of debtor businesses increased by 10,600 in 2024, bringing the total close to 120,000 companies. Unpaid liabilities in the private sector rose by €13 million, pushing the total to more than €180 million.
Small businesses hold nearly 39% of all unpaid insurance liabilities, amounting to around €78 million.
