The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, announced that she has decided the extraordinary parliamentary elections will be held on December 28.
During a press conference, following a meeting earlier in the day with representatives of political parties, Osmani said that eight parties supported December 28 as the election date, five preferred December 21, while three parties said that either date was acceptable for them.
She also signed in advance the decision to dissolve the Assembly, after lawmakers failed for the second time to elect the country’s new executive a day earlier.
The signing of the decree to dissolve the Assembly comes after political leaders were unable to reach any agreement for lawmakers to attempt voting today on several important national issues.
“In accordance with the Constitution of Kosovo and the applicable legislation, and after receiving today the decision of the Assembly of Kosovo regarding the failure to form the Government by the second nominee, the President of the Republic of Kosovo has today dissolved the ninth legislature of the Republic of Kosovo,” the Presidency’s statement reads.
