This year, 3,900 new members joined private pension schemes, bringing the total number to 48,000. The figures indicate an annual growth of around 9% in contributors to these schemes.

Private pension funds now count over 48,000 members. Compared to the end of last year, the number of contributors has increased by 9%. In other words, 3,900 new participants were added to private pension schemes during January–September 2025.

The total net assets of private pension funds amount to 14.3 billion lek, a value approximately 11.5% higher than in 2024.

Despite the increase in contributors, the share of workers who contribute to private pension schemes remains low compared to those paying into the state pension system. Roughly only 5.8% of contributors to the social insurance system also contribute to a private pension plan.

Private pensions serve as a supplement to state pensions. By depositing a minimum monthly amount into a private pension fund, individuals can secure higher income in retirement alongside state pension benefits.

Private pension funds invest these contributions primarily in treasury bills and government bonds. The interest earned from these investments is returned to citizens upon retirement, in addition to the amount they have paid in monthly. Official statistics show a 16% increase in investments in treasury bills and bonds compared to last year.
