The rising prices of eggs and food products are increasingly burdening the economic situation of families in Kosovo. Citizens say they face high prices every day, while incomes are not increasing, making daily life progressively more difficult.
According to them, eggs and basic food items are essential for every family, and their rising cost is creating significant financial pressure. They note that prices have increased considerably — in some cases by up to 30 percent — while salaries and pensions remain insufficient to cover this additional cost.
One citizen said that the rising prices of eggs and other food products directly affect families in Kosovo, especially in rural areas.
“The prices have gone way up. I live in a village… It affects every family greatly because Albanians always prepare breakfast with eggs — we are a poor people, a large part of this population,” one citizen expressed.
Citizen Tafir Gashi emphasized that the increase in food prices, including eggs, is heavily burdening the public:
“Of course this affects us. All food products are very expensive. Salaries and pensions must increase, and prices should be lower while wages should be higher. We have no choice but to buy — we must buy eggs — but they are extremely expensive,” he said.
Sabit Makolli stated that the price increase has reached up to 30 percent, making life more difficult for citizens:
“No, we haven’t noticed any decrease, only increases. Prices went up by 30%. There’s nowhere to turn — we have to eat because these are daily necessities. It affects people a lot, especially pensioners who have low incomes, but it affects everyone. Prices must go down, and pensions and salaries must increase.”
Citizen Avdyl Kuleta said that rising prices are significantly affecting people, but they have no choice but to cope with it:
“It affects us, but what can we do? I wish a government would be formed first, and then salaries could be raised. Prices have gone up and wages must rise.”
According to the Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS), in March 2025 the subcategory “milk, cheese and eggs” recorded a price increase of 7.1% compared to March 2024.
According to the Economic Bulletin, a pack of 30 eggs has reached a price of €4.20, while in some Prishtina markets it reaches €4.89.
Egg prices have also increased in North Macedonia, where one egg now costs 20 cents.
