Movement continues to be heavy at the Kakavijë Border Crossing, with increased traffic recorded on both sides of the border.
According to the Border Police of Gjirokastër, over the past 24 hours a total of 7,472 people crossed the border at this checkpoint, including 5,300 entries and 2,172 exits. During the same period, 2,340 vehicles were recorded in both directions—1,607 entering and 733 exiting.
This year-end period coincides with the return of Albanian emigrants to their hometowns to celebrate Christmas and New Year’s holidays. Currently, the Border Police at Kakavijë have taken measures to prevent long waiting lines at document control counters.
In addition, the presence of police officers has been increased to ensure public safety within the customs area and to combat criminal activity along the border line with Greece.
