Durrës is once again being confirmed this year as the leading destination for New Year’s celebrations. Hotels in the coastal city have completed their preparations for the gala night, while bookings have seen a noticeable increase, especially from foreign tourists.

“All hotels are prepared for the gala night. This year there has been very high demand from foreign nationals; most of them are Bulgarians, Slovenians, and Germans. We also have a group of visitors from the United States, about 35 people. They really like Albanian traditions and the way we celebrate. New Year’s Eve in Albania is 100% tradition, with a non-negotiable menu featuring products specifically for that night: turkey, baklava, and milk pie. The evening is organized around our traditions, with dances, songs, and Albanian motifs. Korça may be preferred by Albanian citizens, while for foreigners Durrës ranks first and has very high demand for reservations,” says tourism operator Blerim Norja.

In addition to foreign tourists, the way locals celebrate has also changed in recent years. Families are increasingly moving away from the traditional home setting and opting instead for hotels and restaurants.

“In the past, 80% of Durrës residents celebrated New Year’s Eve with their families at home, but this tradition has changed and most now celebrate in restaurants and hotels. We can say the ratio is 60% at home and 40% in restaurants,” adds tourism operator Blerim Norja.

With a high volume of bookings and offers focused on Albanian tradition, Durrës remains one of the most sought-after destinations for year-end celebrations, attracting not only domestic tourists but also international visitors.
