This Sunday, a protest organized by the political party Shqipëria Bëhet is taking place in front of the Prime Minister’s Office, as previously announced several days ago by its leader, Adriatik Lapaj.
Euronews Albania journalist Enkelejda Mema provided details on the reasons behind the protest and how turnout compares to the first demonstration.
The journalist emphasized that this is the second protest held by Shqipëria Bëhet on Dëshmorët e Kombit Boulevard, and that it comes as a continuation of the 28-day sit-in staged in front of the Prime Minister’s Office by party leader Adriatik Lapaj and his supporters.
“Unlike the first protest, demonstrators have vuvuzelas, background music, and various banners whose main messages call for the resignation of Edi Rama, the formation of a transitional government, and free and democratic elections. As for participation, it is considerable. There are supporters of Shqipëria Bëhet as well as members of the diaspora, who have backed Lapaj’s sit-in by being physically present in front of the Prime Minister’s Office and by providing various forms of support. The average age of participants in this protest is approximately 25–40 years old, mainly representing the core working-age population,” Mema stated.
She also highlighted the three main demands that Shqipëria Bëhet is raising through this protest:
- The resignation of Prime Minister Rama, whom they accuse of being responsible for all corruption scandals, some of which are currently under investigation by SPAK.
- The formation of a transitional government that would last for one year and include figures not linked to politics, but coming from academia, medicine, and other professional fields.
- The holding of early, free, and democratic elections.
