A significant drop in temperatures in many areas, falling several degrees below zero, also increases the risk of heart attacks. According to experts, cold weather puts additional strain on the heart and causes blood vessels to narrow. Cardiologist Ermir Tafaj, in an interview with Euronews Albania, stated that patients with existing heart conditions are the most at risk.
Under these circumstances, doctors urge all patients with heart and blood vessel problems to be especially cautious.
However, even those who believe they are healthy and have not undergone recent medical check-ups should remain careful, particularly when working in cold conditions and engaging in physical exertion.
The cardiologist recommends never ignoring chest pain, even if it lasts only a few seconds and subsides when work is stopped or when moving into warmer environments.
