Albania’s Parliament is entering 2026 with a strategic document aimed at improving the institution’s internal functioning and reducing political tensions in the parliamentary chamber.
Parliament has drafted a 27-page Action Plan, which foresees increased dialogue among parliamentary groups, continuous training on MPs’ conduct, and a more active role for group leaders and committee chairs in enforcing parliamentary discipline.
The document also aims to strengthen oversight of the government through interpellations, parliamentary questions, motions, and investigative committees — a process the opposition has accused the ruling majority of obstructing.
The strategy envisages the approval of electoral reform by July 2026, in line with the requirements of the European Union and the recommendations of ODIHR. Parliament will resume its work on January 19, and during its first sessions is expected to vote on amendments to justice reform laws as well as a new media law.
