Prime Minister Edi Rama, during a meeting with the country’s mayors, also addressed the issue of the “Mountain Package.” Rama said that the first phase has not been completed by many municipalities, describing this as unacceptable.
He stressed that the government’s ambition is to achieve 1,000 investments through this package. According to him, if municipalities fail to meet this target, their mayors will not be eligible to run for re-election.
“Not all municipalities have completed the first phase, and this is unacceptable. What should our objective be? I don’t know if you noticed, but on the very first day the Mountain Package was announced, there were more than 700 expressions of interest from Albanians living abroad.
This is an investment aimed at attracting the savings of Albanians abroad and encouraging them to return. How is it possible that the first phase has not been completed? What is this great science needed to define the map where this development will take place? I don’t understand what kind of science you are doing.
Our ambition should be 1,000 investments from this package, and if you divide that across 60 municipalities, it is not a large number. I have asked the minister to determine how many investments must be in the pipeline for each of you to be able to claim re-nomination. There will be no re-nomination if the target of this project has not been met,” Rama said.
