President Bajram Begaj held a meeting with foreign ambassadors this Wednesday. This marked the first diplomatic ceremony of 2026, which was also attended by Members of the European Parliament.
In his address, Begaj invited the ambassadors to consider Albania as their home. Among other points, the President emphasized Albania’s relations with the United States of America, stressing that these relations are built on trust and shared values.
Regarding the invitation from U.S. President Donald Trump for Albania to join the Peace Board, Begaj said it represents an important recognition for the country.
“Our strategic relationship with the United States, our membership path toward the European Union, and our belonging to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) constitute the foundations of our security and international orientation. The partnership with the United States is more than a political and military alliance.
It is a special, historical relationship built on gratitude, trust, shared values, and commitment to freedom and democracy. A few days ago, this relationship was further enriched by another meaningful element, through President Donald Trump’s invitation for Albania to be included in the Peace Board, an important initiative that strengthens international peace and stability.
This engagement reflects the United States’ appreciation of Albania as a reliable, stable, and committed partner,” Begaj said.
Among other points, Begaj emphasized that Albania’s accession to the EU remains a strategic choice and a return to its natural European family.
“Europe remains a project of peace and values built on democracy, the rule of law, and respect for individual freedoms. Our path toward EU membership is a transformative process aimed at strengthening institutions, raising standards, and consolidating stability.
The opening of groups of negotiation chapters confirmed the EU’s recognition of the reforms undertaken, marking the transition from aspiration to a structured, merit-based commitment,” Begaj added.
