The departure of doctors from Albania to European Union countries, mainly Germany, appears to have slowed down. This is evidenced by the declining number of requests for certificates of good standing. The President of the Order of Physicians, Dritan Trepça, who issues these certificates, says that not everyone who obtains them does so in order to emigrate.

The President of the Order of Physicians stated that it is mainly young doctors who tend to leave.

However, the departure of doctors from their country of origin is not only an Albanian phenomenon. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), it has affected all Eastern European countries. According to this report, around 22% of healthcare professionals trained in Albania work in other countries. According to the WHO, Albanian nurses make up the largest number of foreign workers in Italian hospitals, ranking second after those from Romania. As for doctors in the Italian healthcare system, Albanian physicians rank fourth, after those from Austria, Romania, and Spain.
