The savings of Albanian citizens deposited in domestic banks reached €15 billion in 2025. The latest report by the Central Bank on deposit performance shows an increase in their overall level, with the majority of funds held in the local currency.
According to the data, lek-denominated deposits stood at 711 billion lekë in December, up from 651 billion lekë in January, meaning that over a 12-month period their value increased by 60 billion lekë.
More than one-third of the funds held in Albanian banks are in transferable deposits and non-maturity deposits.
Transferable deposits, which are funds that can be used immediately by their holders, increased from 385 billion lekë in January to nearly 418 billion lekë in December 2025. Meanwhile, non-maturity deposits in lekë rose from 58 billion lekë in January to 66 billion lekë in December, while foreign-currency non-maturity deposits remained above 129 billion lekë.
