President Bajram Begaj, through a post on Facebook, reacted to the election of Albulena Haxhiu as Speaker of the Assembly of Kosovo. Begaj congratulated Haxhiu on her new position.

He emphasized that Albania will continue to stand by Kosovo, adding that the country will support its democratic institutions and Kosovo’s Euro-Atlantic path.

“Best wishes for successful work to the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo in its 10th Legislature! Congratulations, Ms. Albulena Haxhiu, on your election as Speaker of the Assembly!

Albania will continue to stand by Kosovo in support of its democratic institutions and its Euro-Atlantic journey,” Begaj wrote.

The constitutive session of the Kosovo Assembly this Wednesday was chaired by the oldest MP, Avni Dehari (LVV). Initially, a temporary commission was formed to verify the quorum and MPs’ mandates.

After the completion of this process, deputies of the tenth legislature took the solemn oath, officially assuming their mandates.

On the agenda, the election of the Speaker of the Assembly was proposed by the Vetëvendosje Movement, and Albulena Haxhiu was elected with 66 votes. The session then continued with procedures for the election of deputy speakers.

The Assembly of Kosovo also appointed five deputy speakers. Following nominations from parliamentary groups: Hekuran Murati of Vetëvendosje proposed Ardian Gola; Blerta Deliu-Kodra from the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) nominated Vlora Çitaku; and Besian Mustafa of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) proposed Kujtim Shala.

From the ranks of Serb deputies, Sllavko Simić was nominated for the position of deputy speaker, while other non-majority communities proposed Emilia Rexhepi. After the vote, the candidates were elected with 104 votes in favor, 3 against, and 6 abstentions.
