The President of Albania, Bajram Begaj, in his address to the Assembly of Kosovo, declared that the state has now marked 18 years of independence and has reached maturity. Among other remarks, he stated that Kosovo is now an irreversible reality.
“This is the age of maturity. This anniversary is proof that the Republic of Kosovo is an irreversible reality, a sovereign state. Kosovo is a young state in years, but with deep roots of sacrifice, contribution, and merit,” Begaj said.
The President also referred to former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA), who are facing trial in The Hague. Begaj stated that they are confronting injustice before the Special Court and that Kosovo’s history cannot be understood without their names.
“On this anniversary, our thoughts are with those who are facing a difficult, unjust, and decisive battle in The Hague. The history of Kosovo cannot be understood without the names of Hashim Thaçi, Jakup Krasniqi, Kadri Veseli, and Rexhep Selimi. They are facing fabricated charges before an international court.
Those who took up arms to seek freedom for their land and their families are and will always remain symbols of freedom. The truth cannot be altered or changed. Freedom has a name; freedom deserves justice and gratitude. The Republic of Albania stands with the KLA,” Begaj said.
