18 Protesters Arrested, Police: They Threw Molotov Cocktails, Including 3 Minors! MP Under Investigation

The Tirana Police have issued an official statement regarding the individuals detained during the incidents recorded at the opposition protest. Police announced that 18 people have been arrested, while 28 others are being criminally investigated.

According to the police, the protesters resisted officers and threw hard objects at them and at state institutions. The statement emphasizes that protesters also threw Molotov cocktails, some of which were found in the bags of those detained.

Police stressed that among those arrested are three minors. Among those under investigation is Member of Parliament Klevis Balliu, who is accused of the criminal offense of “Organizing and participating in illegal gatherings and demonstrations.”

“Tirana / After throwing pyrotechnic materials, Molotov cocktails, and hard objects, and resisting police officers during yesterday’s rally, 46 citizens have been identified. Eighteen of them were arrested, while 28 others are being criminally prosecuted.

Twenty-five unexploded Molotov cocktails, 27 mobile phones, and other illegal items were seized.

The Tirana Police structures, following the completion of initial investigative actions regarding the unlawful acts committed by a group of protesters during last night’s rally organized by the political entity Democratic Party, who resisted State Police officers that had taken measures to safeguard state institutions, ensure public order and safety, and guarantee the free movement of citizens around the area where the rally was taking place, and who threw flammable materials (Molotov cocktails) and hard objects at police officers and institutions, arrested in flagrante delicto the following citizens:

A.K., 19 years old; D.G., 32; A.I., 42; V.I., 22; E.Xh., 18; K.N., 23; R.I., 20; E.C., 46; R.P., 26; M.K., 31; A.D., 31; K.K., 45; F.D., 23; B.B., 23; A.D., 53; and three minors.

Additionally, 27 other citizens were criminally prosecuted. The case materials were also referred to the Prosecutor’s Office, where proceedings were initiated while at liberty against citizen K.B., a Member of Parliament, for the criminal offense of ‘Organizing and participating in illegal gatherings and demonstrations.’

The investigative group continues its work to identify other individuals who may have committed unlawful acts during yesterday’s rally. The procedural materials were referred to the Tirana Prosecutor’s Office for further actions,” the police stated.
