Some Serbs, through messages on social media, have called on Iran to attack the U.S. military base Bondsteel in Kosovo, following the outbreak of the U.S.–Iran conflict in the Middle East.

KFOR announced that there are currently no significant changes within its force.

“KFOR’s posture and position are periodically reviewed and adjusted as circumstances evolve, in order to ensure that the mission remains fit for purpose,” KFOR stated.

NATO highly values the role of the United States in ensuring security in Kosovo as well as regional stability, noting that there are nearly 600 U.S. troops within KFOR.

“The United States continues to play a fundamental role in supporting lasting security throughout Kosovo and regional stability, including within the framework of the NATO-led KFOR mission. The United States has nearly 600 troops deployed in KFOR. It leads the mission’s Regional Command East (RC-East). RC-East contributes to KFOR’s daily activities in many different ways, including through patrols, exercises, engagement with representatives of all local communities, and support for reconstruction and economic development projects.

Meanwhile, the military mission of the North Atlantic Alliance emphasizes that it continues to fulfill its mandate under United Nations Security Council Resolution 1244, to help maintain a safe and secure environment for all people in Kosovo.

“KFOR operates in close coordination with the Kosovo Police and the European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX), in their respective roles as security responders. KFOR’s presence and daily activities throughout Kosovo create space for political dialogue. Stability in the region ultimately depends on all parties choosing diplomacy over violence. The path toward long-term peace is political. NATO continues to strongly support the EU-facilitated Dialogue as the framework for resolving outstanding issues with respect for the rights of all communities,” the response states.
