President Vjosa Osmani announced that on Thursday she sent constitutional amendments to Parliament proposing that the president be elected directly by popular vote.
She called on all political parties to support and vote for these constitutional amendments.
“From now on, let the people speak,” Osmani wrote on Facebook.
According to the Constitution of Kosovo, the president of Kosovo is elected by Parliament through a secret vote of the members of parliament.
Osmani’s call comes after political parties failed to reach an agreement on a consensus president, and she did not secure their support for a second mandate.
