The museums in the city of Gjirokastër have become important points of tourism, attracting both domestic and foreign visitors. During the winter season, the Weapons Museum, the Ethnographic Museum, the Kadare Museum, and the Cold War Museum welcomed around 3,000 visitors. The values of tradition and folklore, displayed in the premises of the Ethnographic Museum, are attracting increasing interest, especially with the start of spring.
Olsi Sinani, guide: “The winter season we just left behind recorded a high flow of tourists. The majority were Albanian tourists, who showed particular preferences for these museums. As is known, all the museums of Gjirokastër, not only the Ethnographic Museum, are an important part of tourism here. Now that the spring season has begun, a greater interest from foreign tourists and groups visiting the city has been observed.”
During their visit to the Ethnographic Museum, tourists learn and receive detailed information about the values of the traditional Gjirokastër house, old costumes, folk songs, and other elements of folklore.
Tourist: “It is my first time in Albania and I am very interested in folk culture. The visit to this museum has helped me discover interesting values and evidence of folklore and traditions.”
Olsi Sinani, guide: “Tourists are very attracted to ethnographic elements, such as costumes, characteristic objects of Gjirokastër, and of course, the traditional house.”
The proper functioning of museums in Gjirokastër has a special tradition, while the development of tourism is turning them into key centers for attracting both domestic and foreign visitors.
