The relocation of 102 containers with suspected toxic waste belonging to the company “Kurum” has begun after more than a year of storage in Porto Romano. Their transport is being carried out toward Vrina, near Shënavlash, under the order of the Prosecution and under the supervision of authorities to ensure safe handling and continuation of legal procedures.

The operation is being escorted by the Durrës Police. In connection with this case, the Durrës Court has issued 33 arrest warrants for company representatives and officials, of which 20 have been executed.

In the summer of 2024, 102 containers shipped from Durrës were returned from Malaysia due to suspicions regarding approximately 2,100 tons of hazardous waste. The shipment was stored in Porto Romano under security measures, while the Durrës Prosecution launched an investigation.

After more than a year, 33 arrest warrants were issued for individuals involved from companies and state institutions, 20 of which have been carried out. Investigations revealed that the waste originated from steel processing in Elbasan and was exported to Malaysia, but was returned following an alert from an international organization.

Analyses confirmed that the materials were hazardous waste containing toxic substances that pose risks to human health and the environment. It is suspected that documents were falsified to conceal their nature, while those involved are accused of smuggling, environmental pollution, forgery, and abuse of office.
