In Gjirokastër, traditional fairs held throughout the summer season promote the values of handicrafts and traditional crafts as key attractions for tourists. Souvenirs skillfully crafted by artisans have become increasingly popular among visitors, who take them home as mementos of their visit to the Stone City. These events become even more meaningful when they take on a nationwide character, bringing together masters of folk traditions from Kosovo and other Albanian-inhabited regions.

“I come from Kosovo, and this is the fifth time I have participated. My products include handbags, handmade crafts, beads, and accessories. Activities like these are very important because they support us artisans, and we need that support. Kosovo and Albania are like one nation, and whenever we receive an invitation, we never refuse,” said one artisan.

“Part of these events are also artisans from various regions of Albania and Kosovo who come together to promote the values and heritage of their handcrafted and traditional works,” said another participant.

Participants consider such events essential for introducing younger generations to traditional culture and craftsmanship. During the summer season, Gjirokastër has been experiencing a high influx of tourists, increasing interest in and demand for traditional handmade products. This year, the Stone City has welcomed more than 80,000 domestic and foreign visitors, while the tourism sector has become a key driver of the local economy.
