Prime Minister Edi Rama joined the resumed plenary session of Parliament on Thursday afternoon, during which lawmakers approved the penal amnesty bill.

Before the vote, tensions arose in the chamber, and acting Speaker Niko Peleshi ordered the removal of Opportunity Party MP Agron Shehaj from the session after he repeatedly called on the Prime Minister to resign and listen to the demands of the protesters gathered outside Parliament.

Members of the Democratic Party were absent from the session. The only opposition lawmakers present were Redi Muçi of the Together Movement and Opportunity Party MPs Agron Shehaj and Erald Kapri.

Despite the debate in Parliament, the penal amnesty was approved with 84 votes in favor, 0 against, and 0 abstentions.

Justice Minister Toni Gogu stated that 466 individuals will benefit from the implementation of the amnesty and will be released from prison. According to him, the beneficiaries include 11 women and one minor.

Gogu also announced that 869 convicted individuals will receive sentence reductions under the amnesty law. He emphasized that the process is being overseen by the relevant institutions in accordance with the criteria established by the legislation currently in force.
