The Special Parliamentary Committee on Territorial Reform met on Wednesday, but according to sources, no agreement was reached on the agenda, marking the conclusion of the committee’s working phase.

Sources say the Socialist Party will present its proposal focusing solely on Albania’s new territorial map, specifying the number of municipalities into which the country will be divided.

According to the same sources, the new territorial map is expected to be approved on July 23. During the next parliamentary session, lawmakers are expected to review and adopt amendments to the laws on local self-government and local finances, which will need to be updated to reflect the new territorial division.

The Socialist Party’s proposal reportedly envisages reducing the number of municipalities in Albania to between 40 and 50, according to the same sources.
